High Waist Shorts

High waist jeans, skirts, and more recently, high waist shorts are making a big comeback in the fashion world. If you remember or know fashion, this look is reminiscent of the retro style from the 70’s and 80’s. It’s becoming the trend now with celebrities sporting the look.  

Lots of styles and types of the high waist shorts (also called 'high waisted shorts') are out there from cotton twills to belted leather shorts. This look draws eyes to your waist so it goes more with those with hourglass or straight figures. On the other hand, it is not easy to rock this look, especially if you have a pear-shaped body, and you have the dreaded “stomach pooch”.

Wearing high waisted shorts emphasizes your booty and grabs your hips; you’ll have to look for a size that will fit you well. Sizes for these range from extra small (XXS) to extra large (XL), whatever fits your body type and will make your figure flattering is worth buying. So before you spend your cash on these, make sure that the shorts are not ill-fitting that you’ll regret buying them later.  

High waist shorts are made from various materials such as cotton, spandex, satin, denim, and for the bolder ones, leather. They come in colors ranging from black, to white, and everything in between. Scores of styles are out there from the casual and chic to the funky and edgy. They are pretty versatile, you can use them when you’re out on the town or you’re on a vacation sipping your favorite piña colada.

You can also have these short styles with braces or suspenders. This would make a daring fashion statement. Cuffed hems and buttoned sailor fronts are very trendy especially to growing up girls. This look cinches your waist, so they mostly come with belt loops which you can then use as accessories. You can also choose different colors from dark denims, to khakis, to colored fabrics depending on the occasion. High waisted shorts come in full to demure to fitted types. However, free-flowing styles are the craze compared to tight ones.  

How do you work this look, then? If you decide to buy high waist shorts, look for those that are not too high on your waist, especially if you are top heavy. They should be sitting at your waist, and not reaching at the level of your breasts, which would make you look plump and short. When fitting the shorts, make sure it will not make your butt look too big or it could bring a different impression on you.  

In addition, you should pair your shorts with a simple top which should not be covering your shorts. Tuck your top so you can accentuate your high waist shorts. You can also use ruffled tops, but don’t go for tops that are too frilly and loud. You can accessorize the look with stylish belts.  

To match your shorts with your footwear, wear the shorts with high heels to show off your legs. The high waisted shorts will make your legs look longer. Of course, as already mentioned this look is not easy to pull off. So while going for the fashionable and elegant look, you should not sabotage your comfort in what you’re wearing. You should be comfortable and confident in whatever you decide to have on.
